Classic hummus, homemade
Home-made hummus is simple and easy to make, and the taste is fresh and smooth. This recipe, using canned garbanzo beans (chickpeas) is the classic variation, but the garlic and lemon with just a bit of cumin combine into a extraordinary taste, perfect for dipping. It makes a great appetizer, served with flat bread and/or fresh vegetables, or use it as a spread on sandwiches.
- Garbanzo Beans (Chick Peas) - 2 cans, rinsed and drained
- Tahini - 1/4 cup
- Garlic - 5 cloves, minced
- Garden Onions - 4, minced (white part only)
- Water - 3 Tblsp., cold
- Olive Oil - 3 Tblsp.
- Lemon Juice - 1/4 cup
- Salt - 1/2 tsp.
- Black Pepper - 1/4 tsp.
- Cumin - 1/4 tsp.
- Add all ingredients into a food processor and blend on medium-high until smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add more water and/or oil if it seems too thick.
- Place in a serving dish, cover tightly and chill for 1 or more hours.
- Drizzle with olive oil before serving.
- Serve with flat bread, pita, crackers and/or fresh vegetables.
