Home-made whipped cream is amazingly delicious, rich and flavorful. It really tastes much better than store-bought and you can make it quickly with just 3 (or 2 in a pinch) ingredients in 2 steps.
To ensure success, it helps (especially on a warm day) to chill the crream, bowl and mixer attachments you are using. Put them in the freezer for 15 minutes before you start, or if you are in a real hurry simply fill the bowl with ice and add the mixers for a minute or two.
- 1 cup heavy (whipping) cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (can substitute powdered confectioner’s sugar)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional but recommended)
- In a deep bowl, whip cream on medium speed until it is just getting stiff (no longer a liquid). This takes about 2 minutes, more or less depending on the temperature. You can also use a hand whisk to do this.
- Add the sugar and vanilla. Whip on medium until stiff peaks form (1-2 minutes). Stop as soon as the stiff peaks form, as butter will form if you beat too long.
You can add flavorings when you add the sugar (omit vanilla if using other flavorings).
